LING 120 - Introduction to Linguistics
This course introduces key concepts in the study of language. Among the questions are considered are the following: What does knowing a language entail? Is there a language instinct? How are languages similar and how do they differ? How are languages structured? How do we acquire language? What is the relationship between language and society? And how do languages change? The course covers the basic aspects of language structure (language sounds, the structure of words and sentences, and meaning), psychological and social aspects of language, and language change. (Cross-listed as CRIT 120)
